Gang Who Tried To Rob Ozil And Kolasinac Jailed For 100 Years

Reading Time: 4 minutes
A gang of armed thieves who tried to rob Arsenal stars Mezut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac of their £200,000 watches have been jailed for more than 100 years.

The eight men, who carried knives, machetes and firearms, terrorised wealthy north London neighbourhoods with a string of violent robberies between April 2019 and July 2020.

They wore masks as they broke into luxury homes and ambushed people in their cars before demanding they hand over jewellery and cash, often at knifepoint.

One of the gang, Jordan Northover, 28, had attempted to rob two Arsenal stars of their £200,000 watches at the point of a knitting needle on July 25, 2019.

Sead Kolasinac, 27, was a passenger in teammate Mesut Ozil’s black Mercedes G-Class jeep when they were ambushed in Hampstead, northwest London.

CCTV footage shows Bosnian defender Kolasinac, known as ‘The Tank’, jumping out of the passenger seat of Ozil’s £165,000 4×4 to fight off Northover who prods him with the needle.

Sead Kolasinac (muzzed by police) turns to face the moped gang trying to rob him and Mesut Ozil for their £200,000 watches and didn’t flinch as he tried to beat them up despite the knife

But Kolasinac didn’t flinch, instead squaring up to the thugs – who arrived on a moped – and attempting to knock them out before jumping back inside the vehicle.

Ozil, 32, who earned £350,000 per-week at Arsenal, sped away down the wrong side of a road in Childs Hill following the attack on July 25 and took refuge at a Turkish restaurant.

Northover was previously handed a six-year sentence for the attempted robbery.

The gang of eight were sentenced at Harrow Crown Court on Monday and Tuesday following the campaign of violence.

Mesut Ozil (dyed blonde hair) was pictured talking to officers outside Turkish restaurant Likya on Golders Green Road in North London after the attack last summer

They are understood to have committed around 20 offences in total.

In one terrifying raid, five masked men armed with a knife smashed open the door of an 80-year-old woman’s bedroom and demanded she told them where her safe was.

Pictured: Mesut Ozil

They smashed her wardrobes and forced her to the floor on May 19, but eventually left when the horrified victim confessed she did not have a lock box.

On April 10 last year, a driver was waiting in his car when a machete was forced through the window. He ran from his car but was chased, threatened and made to hand over his Rolex.

And in June, a woman was at home with her two children in Golders Green when two burglars wearing balaclavas forced entry with a crowbar.

She tried to deter them from entering by holding up her phone saying that she was calling the police and then ran and hid upstairs as the raiders stole the keys to her black Audi.

Five of the gang struck again the next day in St John’s Wood, forcing open the victim’s locked bedroom door.

They ordered him to hand over cash and jewellery at knifepoint but he told them he had lost his belongings in a previous raid.

He was threatened with a gun before the gang fled as police arrived.

Two days later on July 16, four members of the gang terrorised a couple when they forced their way into a home in Brondesbury Park through a bathroom window.

The occupants awoke to find the masked men in their bedroom and were forced to open their safe after one of them threatened to ‘go and see’ a daughter who was sleeping next door.

Detectives had them under observation and watched on July 19 as four masked members of the gang carried out a burglary in Barnet Gate.

The raiders set off an alarm and fled empty handed in an Audi they had stolen in the previous Golders Green burglary.

Just over thirty minutes later, detectives watching them in an unmarked car in Hampstead were astonished as gang members approached the vehicle, intent on robbing them.

Officers called in reinforcements when the gang used a metal bar in an attempt to smash the car window.

The four raiders sped off in a stolen car with a police helicopter giving chase and they were all arrested nearby.

Herdsmen Attack In Ebonyi Communities: Our Women Are Still Missing – Survivor

Reading Time: 3 minutes
THE attack carried out by suspected Fulani herdsmen on Monday night in four communities of Egedege, Umuhuali, Obegu and Amezu in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has saddened the hearts of many.

Vanguard gathered that apart from the case of killings that was reported on Monday evening, a survivor alleged that the herdsmen while fleeing the affected Communities abducted some of their females.

In a chat with Newsmen, at Ishielu Local Government Area of the State, one of the Survivors, Comrade Okey Emmanuel alleged that the herdsmen had abducted some women who were returning from the Market on the day of the incident as they fled the affected Communities.

“What happened here is a dark cloud that has befallen these communities. We talking about the dead. An Anambra man also lost his life. Before now, he buried his son. From the counting I made, it was up to 16 as some are still in the bush.

“The number of corpses we cannot tell. The herdsmen had ulterior motive. Their Coordinator, I remember when they were leaving our community before now, his name is Rashidi. He said, he will make the Community shed tears and I believe this is the tears. We are talking about the dead but there are some females who were coming back from the market and we don’t know their whereabouts now.

“That means they must have taken them away. I urge the LGA Chairman and Government to handle this matter squarely. What they did is not an attack but an impression. The youths are not happy, because they were the ones destroying crops and we sanctioned them. But now they came back; are they rating cows more than human beings?”

In his reaction, Mr. Ikechukwu Onwa, the Town Union President of Nkalaha community expressed deep sadness over the incident.

“I feel so bad that the security people couldn’t do anything and that was why they came to my place and burnt my car and killed our people. They killed up to 18 of us. We feel very sad.”

Also, Joseph Chibo, the Town Union President of Nkalagu autonomous Community:

“What happened in our lives knows no bound negatively; the people of Igbesa are saddened by this development.

“It is a very bad situation for our people. Enugu State is equally affected. Despite all the efforts of the Governor for us to live peacefully with these people, we are saddened by this development. It a big shock and we can’t think right.

“We can’t even think right. How do we know that stranger who left our place, suddenly came back and the next thing we are hearing is massacre. How will I know what caused it? We have been leaving peacefully with these people only to wake with these corpses as a gift. Personally, when I counted as I couldn’t hold my emotion again, I counted 16 in number. ”

The scene where the incident occurred is now a shadow of itself as corpses were seen being evacuated in a truck. Vanguard gathered that some corpses were already decomposing due to abandonment.

The affected Communities share boundary with Enugu State as security personnel including the Police and Army were deployed to maintain peace and order in the Area.

Nigerians In UAE Are Financing Boko Haram Terrorists – Garba Shehu

Reading Time: < 1 minute
The Presidency has stated that its investigation revealed that some Nigerians in the United Arab Emirates were transferring money to the Boko Haram terrorists and financing their criminal activities in the country.

The Presidency added that Bureau de Change operators are also in the chain of sending money to terrorists as they were the domestic agents.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesman, Mr Garba Shehu, stated this while appearing on Channels Television, adding that some Nigerians had already been arrested in connection with the financing of Boko Haram.

“The new service chiefs are working with the IG (Inspector-General of Police) and heads of intelligence agencies and there is a clear lead. A lot of people have been arrested in terms of their financing (of terrorism).

“There are a number of people who are currently under arrest. Bureau de Change are facilitating money to terrorists. We have already concluded with the UAE on Nigerians who are transferring money to Boko Haram terrorists and this also happens domestically.

Aisha Yesufu Calls For Danladi Umar’s Removal As CCT Chairman (video)

Reading Time: 2 minutes
Co-convener of Bring Back Our Girls movement Aisha Yesufu on Wednesday called for the removal of chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal Danladi Umar, Igbere TV reports.

Mrs Yesufu made the call following a controversial statement released by the CCT which addressed some youth as ‘Biafran boys’.

Umar was caught on camera on Monday assaulting a security guard at Banex Plaza in Abuja after he was told to park his car properly.

Umar was forced into his car by his security aide. Soon, some persons at the plaza began booing the CCT chairman and throwing items as he attempted to drive away.

After the video went viral on Tuesday, CCT spokesman Ibraheem Al-Hassan wrote in a statement: “As the few policemen in the complex were apparently overwhelmed by the mobs, consisting of Biafran boys throwing matches and shape object to his car, which led to deep cut and dislocation in one of his finger, causing damage to his car, smashing his windscreen.”

However, reacting to the statement, Yesufu posted a video to Twitter, saying:

“Chairman of the Code of Conduct tribunal refers to citizens as Biafran Boys? This is the height of it!

“Justice Danladi Umar needs to be removed from office! He has shown his bias and his position requires neutrality.”

He also said places of worship are used to harbor killers of security agents in the country, assuring that heads of intelligence agencies are working on it.

“It is shocking to many Nigerian that places of worship and farmland are places where killers of policemen, naval officers and military are being harboured.  This discovery will shock you.  But this is going on all over the country.

Biafran Boys: CCT Chairman, Umar Danladi Under Attack

Reading Time: 2 minutes
Twitter users have reacted to the statement by the Chairman, Code of Conduct Tribunal, Umar Danladi.

Angry Nigerians attacked the CCT Chairman for using ‘Biafran boys’ in a statement where he denied assaulting a security guard at a plaza in Abuja.

Recall that we reported that the CCT Chairman was seen in a viral video on Tuesday assaulting the security guard. However, in a statement signed by the CCT’s Head of Press & Public Relations of the CCT in Abuja, Ibraheem Al-Hassan, the Chairman who narrated his version of the incident, said the altercation happened because of parking space.

He claimed the guard was rude to him and that ‘Biafran Boys’ inflicted injuries on him in the process and damaged his windscreen. His use of ‘Biafran Boys’ has now stirred reactions from Nigerians on social media who found such language as inciting the Igbos. While some called for the sack of the CCT Chairman, others blatantly condemned the profiling of individuals at the plaza.

Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST from Twitter; @Sam Hart “ How did the Rwandan crisis escalate? Words were bandied about carelessly. A group of people were called cockroaches. Now in the year of our Lord 2021, an official of the Federal government is using an ethnic slur in Public Communication and there will not be consequences? I dare them.” @CaptainArinze “

The ‘Biafran boys’ press release tells you everything you need to know about the union called Nigeria, and most especially, the mindset of the people leading us and their level of incompetence.

The bigotry, nepotism, tribalism and hatred in the minds of these people is disturbing.” @Kachizone “ Imagine the kind of press statement coming out from the office of a senior federal government official? This tells you how deep-rooted tribalism is among average northerners who always scream “one Nigerian.”

We’re watching .” @Eonyedum “ If I may ask how on earth would a Nigerian of Igbo ethnicity hope to get a fair trial instead of persecution under this so-called Justice of the CCT.” @Ose_anenih “ BIAFRAN BOYS”?This bigot should be arrested for assault.

He has no business being the head of a judicial tribunal.” @EmmaIkumeh “ Biafran Boys’ That’s how the people in this APX government see people from the South East. Yet they say the word war is over. it’s really unfortunate and shameful.”

@JilbrinIbrahim “ Danladi Umar, chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal was caught on video physically assaulting a security man at Banex Plaza in Abuja saying the guard was “rude”. Then he issues a statement condemning Biafran boys.

No decorum, totally unacceptable, he must be sacked.” @FS_Yusuf “ I love the protuberant prejudicial profiling and ethnic-baiting in this grammatically challenged trash. “BIAFRAN Boys.” We are gradually splitting this country by our very own hands.” @Nefertiti “ Forget Ibraheem Al-Hassan’s video cliff, it’s BIAFRANS capitalized for me. Like Abaribe wud say; “Biafran boys slur; shows in their minds, the war is not over yet.

It was exactly how the Rwandan Genocide started. Some people were profiled as cockroaches. Igbos shouldn’t let this slide.” @ItsKristonV “ If a non-Igbo Federal Government staff can freely, officially and openly call Igbos Biafran boys, why then are they shooting and arresting Igbo youths for calling themselves Biafrans?

Lekki Shootings: Killings Of #EndSARS Protesters Unverified, Says US Report

Reading Time: 2 minutes
The United States Department of States has said it could not verify if #EndSARS protesters were killed on October 20, 2020 at the Lekki tollgate.

The US department made this known in a report tagged ‘2020 Country Reports on Human Rights Practices: Nigeria’.

A copy of the report was obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday.

The report said though soldiers fired ammunition into the air to disperse protesters, the number of fatalities could not be verified.

Part of the report read, “On October 20, members of the security forces enforced curfew by firing shots into the air to disperse protesters, who had gathered at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos to protest abusive practices by the Nigerian Police Force’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

“Accurate information on fatalities resulting from the shooting was not available at year’s end.

“Amnesty International reported 10 persons died during the event, but the government disputed Amnesty’s report, and no other organization was able to verify the claim. The government reported two deaths connected to the event.

“One body from the toll gate showed signs of blunt force trauma. A second body from another location in Lagos State had bullet wounds.

“The government acknowledged that soldiers armed with live ammunition were present at the Lekki Toll Gate. At year’s end the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution continued to hear testimony and investigate the shooting at Lekki Toll Gate.”

The report also said there are significant human rights abuses which included unlawful and arbitrary killings by both government and nonstate actors.

It added, “According to credible international organizations, prior to their dissolution, SARS units sometimes used torture to extract confessions later used to try suspects. President Buhari disbanded SARS units in October following nationwide #EndSARS protests against police brutality.

“Of the states, 28 and the FCT established judicial panels of inquiry to investigate allegations of human rights violations carried out by the Nigerian Police Force and the disbanded SARS units.

“The panels were made up of a diverse group of civil society representatives, government officials, lawyers, youth, and protesters with the task of reviewing complaints submitted by the public and making recommendations to their respective state government on sanctions for human rights violations and proposed compensation for victims. The work of the judicial panels continued at year’s end.”
