Arsene Wenger Linked With Return To Management As New Switzerland National Team Boss Three Years After Leaving Arsenal

Arsene Wenger has been linked with a return to management to become the new Switzerland national team boss.

The Frenchman, 71, ended his 22-year spell as Arsenal boss in 2018 and has since been working as FIFA’s chief of global football development.

Switzerland are now on the lookout for a new national coach following Vladimir Petkovic’s departure to manage French club, Bordeaux. But multiple reports in Zurich claim the former Gunners chief is top of the Swiss FA’s wish list.

The report said they want a coach who can step in quickly for the national team’s World Cup bid, and see them through to the Qatar finals in November 2022.

French sources claim Wenger has been sounded out about the vacancy and is thought to be interested.

They tried to recruit Wenger in 1995, while he was coach of Nagoya Grampus, but he refused to break his contract with the Japanese club.

He took charge of Arsenal a year later and led the Gunners to three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups.

The Strasbourg-born tactician is fluent in six languages, making him an ideal fit for a Swiss side made up of German, French, and Italian speakers.

Police Panel To Grill DCP Kyari As US Issues Arrest Warrant

Reading Time: 2 minutes
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) will set up a panel to probe Abba Kyari, one of its high-profile officers, over his alleged relationship with Ramon Abbas, the self-confessed international fraudster, TheCable understands.

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has already secured a court order for Kyari’s arrest following his indictment in the confessional statements made by the man better known as Hushpuppi.

TheCable understands that FBI has contacted Nigeria police over the warrant of arrest, but there is yet no official confirmation and the details are still sketchy.

An international warrant of arrest can be executed through the INTERPOL but there still has to be a judicial pronouncement before Nigeria can hand over Kyari to the FBI for trial in the US.

The police have been silent on the Kyari twist to the Hushpuppi saga.

But a senior officer who spoke with TheCable said the police hierarchy would first take an “in-house action” before any extradition process can be discussed.

“The police headquarters will set up a high-powered panel to probe the allegations against him before we decide on what to do next,” the officer informed TheCable without giving further details.

Hushpuppi was arrested in the UAE in June 2020 alongside 11 of his associates over allegations bordering on hacking, impersonation, scamming, banking fraud, and identity theft.

He had earlier pleaded guilty to the money laundering charges against him, putting him at the risk of 20 years imprisonment.

In a recent court document, the social media celebrity had alleged that he bribed Kyari to arrest a co-fraudster.

The crack investigator, however, dismissed Hushpuppi’s claim, saying he did not receive any money from the socialite as alleged.

Amid the ensuing saga, additional court documents seen by TheCable showed that the US district court in California had ordered the FBI to arrest Kyari.

The extradition of Hushpuppi to the US had followed after the UAE police detailed his arrest in a special operation dubbed ‘Fox Hunt 2’ where he was accused of defrauding 1.9 million victims to the tune of N168 billion.

The embattled Instagram celebrity was thereafter arraigned and detained at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in Chicago ahead of his trial.

BBNaija 2021:- Maria And Pere Identified As The Wild Cards In The House

BBnaija’s Maria and Pere have been identified as the wild cards in the house after Big Brother slightly said so during her dairy session.

Maria is totally confirmed to be one of the wild cards in the house based on her conversation with Big Brother during the dairy session and Pere is suggested to be because he was called to the diary room right after Maria.

Big Brother gave a clue that he would call the wild cards one after the other and Pere was the next person just after he finished speaking with Maria in the diary room therefore Maria and Pere are been identified as the wild cards.

Netizens reacting to this seem surprised as they never expected Maria to be one of the wild cards since she got herself actively involved in the whole show and are praying that the housemates never identify her so she could compete longer.

Maria has been helping the other housemates to identify the wild cards in the house not knowing she’s one of the wild cards but for Pere, he has been keeping it low hoping the housemates don’t identify him as one of the wild cards.

Kperogi: There Was Always Something Suspicious About Abba Kyari

Reading Time: < 1 minute
There was always something eerily suspicious about so-called super cop Abba Kyari who has now been indicted in a multimillion-dollar money laundering scam in court documents unsealed by the FBI this week. He has always struck me as transparently dodgy and exhibitionistic, and I’ve always wondered why this isn’t apparent to most Nigerians.

As a general rule, most people who have a compulsive need to be overly showy and self-congratulatory about a virtue or a deed—religious morality, policing, etc.— often have something to hide.

Full Extract Of Kyari’s Conversation With Hushpuppi That Nailed Him

Reading Time: 5 minutes
A US Court document has detailed conversations between Nigeria’s celebrated Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, and infamous suspected fraudster, Ramon Olorunwa Abbas, alias Hushpuppi regarding bribery and arrest of another suspected fraudster.

Hushpuppi, who recently pleaded guilty in the United States, had narrated how he bribed Kyari.

Officials said in court filings that Hushpuppi disclosed during interrogation that he paid bribes to Nigeria’s police chief, Kyari, to have one of his rivals arrested and jailed in Nigeria following a dispute over a $1.1 million dupe of a Qatari businessperson.

Abbas had asked Kyari to arrest and jail a fellow fraudster Kelly Chibuzor Vincent after both were locked in a dispute presumably over how to share the $1.1 million loot received from the Qatari businessperson.

Vincent subsequently contacted the victim and informed them that they were being scammed by a syndicate involving him and Abbas.

This elicited anger from Abbas (Hushpuppi), who contacted Kyari to arrest and jail his rival over the dispute. Abbas (Hushpuppi) said Kyari sent pictures of Vincent in jail and subsequently sent a bank account number to him (Hushpuppi) to which a wire transfer should be made having done a ‘good’ job as sent by Abbas (Hushpuppi).

But, Kyari had taken to his Facebook page to react to the allegation, claiming he only assisted Hushpuppi to get native clothes and caps worth N300,000.

Although he admitted to arresting Vincent, he said it was after Hushpuppi alleged that Vincent was threatening his family here in Nigeria.

Kyari denied knowing about the relationship between Hushpuppi and Vincent at the initial stage and later discovered Vincent and Hushpuppi had a misunderstanding over the said amount of money.

He also said he never demanded any money from Abbas (Hushpuppi), adding that they (Kyari and his team) were focused on saving people who were being threatened.

But, the court document proves otherwise, showing clearly that Kyari’s claims were lies.

According to the document, after an earlier discussion with Kyari, Hushpuppi requested for Vincent’s (also known as Chibuzor) contact details, which the latter provided.

Hushpuppi forwarded the contact details to Kyari and on January 15, 2020, Hushpuppi sent an audio recording to Kyari via WhatsApp, stating that he wanted to remind Kyari about what they discussed earlier.

On January 16, 2020, Hushpuppi sent the following threats to Chibuzor: “I dey always tell people to think well before they offend me and make them make sure they fit stand the consequences when the time comes. I won’t say more than that but very soon, very, very soon, the wrath of my hands shall find you and when it does, it will damage you forever. At this point I no get discussion with you, you have committed a crime that won’t be forgiven, that is punishable and you shall receive die (sic) punishment in due time. I swear with my life, you will regret messing with me, you will even wish you died before my hands will touch you.”

Later on, Kyari confirmed the arrest and detention of Vincent Chibuzor to Abbas (Hushpuppi), who requested for an account number to which he will send the bribe meant for Kyari’s team members.

Hushpuppi also pleaded with Kyari to inform his team members to deal with Vincent like an armed robber.

The transcript of their conversation goes thus:

First, Kyari sent a message to Hushpuppi saying, “We would pick him today or tomorrow.”

Abbas (Hushpuppi) wrote, “I will take care of the team also after they pick him up.”

Kyari confirmed “Yes ooo.”

It also stated that on January 20, 2020, Kyari sent biographical, identifying information for Chibuzor to Hushpuppi.

Their conversation goes thus: Abbas (Hushpuppi) confirmed “that is him sir.”

Kyari stated, “We have arrested the guy . . . He is in my cell now. This is his picture after we arrested him today.”

After receiving the photograph of Vincent/Chibuzor, Abbas (Hushpuppi) said, “I want him to go through serious beating of his life.”

In response to Kyari’s question about what Chibuzor had done to Abbas (Hushpuppi), Abbas sent Kyari an audio message.

He said: “What he did is, I have one job. The job want to pay me 500, umm, 75,000 dollars [i.e., $575,000]. He went to message the job behind me because I told him to help me make one document for me to give the job. Then he went—he has a—I gave him the details.

“Then he went to message the job behind my back and try to divert the money and in this process he tell the job because of the documents he gave me that I gave the job, he tell the job, ‘These document they sent to you before. These people are fake (sic).

“’This money—is me who can help you to get it. Come to me le—bring this money you want to pay these people to me. I’m the only one who can help you,’ and all these things to divert the job for himself.”

After listening to the message, Kyari simply said he understood without requesting other information or evidence relating to Chibuzor’s role in the scheme, or any questions about the nature of the transaction, the document added.

Hushpuppi further said he wanted to pay money to send Chibuzor to jail for a long time, stating “Please sir I want to spend money to send this boy to jail, let him go for a very long time.”

Kyari responded, “Ok bro, I understand I will discuss with my team who arrested him . . . And handling the case. We will do something about it.”

Hushpuppi responded, “Let me know how I can send money to the team sir, let them deal with him like armed robber.”

Kyari responded, “OK I will send their account details to u.”

Hushpuppi further wrote, “He betrayed me and try (sic) to take food out my mouth, this is great punishable sin,” and Kyari responded, “Yeah bro.”

Hushpuppi said, “I want him to suffer for many years.”

Kyari responded, “Hahahaha Hahahaha.”

The document stated that about some minutes later, Kyari provided the account information for a bank account at a Nigerian bank, Zenith Bank, in the name of a person other than Kyari himself.

Hushpuppi responded “Ok sir, tomorrow by noon.”

This showed that Hushpuppi planned to pay the Nigeria Police Force officers who arrested Chibuzor for that service.

A part of the document stated, ”This was not the only time that Abbas arranged payments with Kyari. On May 20, 2020, Abbas sent Kyari transaction receipts for two transactions from accounts at Nigerian banks (GTBank and Zenith Bank) of a person Abbas knew in the U.A.E.—a person also arrested with Abbas in Abbas’ apartment in the U.A.E. by Dubai Police on June 9, 2020—to the Nigerian bank accounts of another person in Nigeria.

“The amounts on the transaction receipts totalled 8 million Nigerian Naira, which was approximately $20,600 based on publicly available exchange rate information.”

3,000 Women, Youths Benefit In Lagos Agric Investment To Boost Food Security

Reading Time: 5 minutes
The food sufficiency programme of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been taken a notch higher. The Governor, on Thursday, rolled out massive agricultural investment that empowers 3,000 urban and rural farmers in key sectoral value chains.

Women, youths and peasant farmers were the main beneficiaries of the 2021 Agricultural Value Chains Enterprise Activation Programme through which the State Government is supporting agripreneurs with modern equipment and inputs that would help them make significant difference and scale up their agricultural practices.

Various groups of farmers, in their numbers, thronged the parade ground of the Police College, Ikeja to personally receive the material support from the Governor, accompanied by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and members of the State Executive Council.

The scheme is also a component of the Sanwo-Olu administration’s five-year Agricultural and Food System Development Roadmap recently launched to chart a coordinated path for the desired development of the sector and boost food security.

The beneficiaries were selected for the scheme through a merit-based system anchored by independent associations of farmers across the State. The support was majorly for agripreneurs in poultry, piggery and artisanal fishery – the three sub-sectors largely affected by the disruption occasioned by Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Sanwo-Olu noted that the intervention was necessitated by the need to raise food production, processing and marketing, while also creating jobs and sustaining the livelihood of the farmers through value creation.

Through the scheme, the Governor said the Government would be easing the burden of the beneficiary farmers and agriculture workers, describing the programme as “another milestone” in fulfilling his administration’s electoral promises to the people.

He said: “This Agricultural Value Chains Enterprise Activation Programme is a clear demonstration of the commitment of our administration to the development and expansion of the agricultural sector, which is driven by a farm-to-table model that aligns with our goal of making Lagos a truly 21st century economy.

“We are determined to increase food production in the State from the current 20 per cent to at least 50 per cent by 2025 and this effort has been emboldened, given the observed disruption in the supply chain of food across the country as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the outbreak of zoonotic diseases.

“We have emerged wiser and more determined to succeed in creating and nurturing a viable agribusiness sector in Lagos. The State Government has put in place a strategy for the proper utilisation and continuous maintenance of the assets being donated to derive maximum value from them. We are also working with a financial institution regarding appropriate financing structures for the guaranteed sustainability of the programme.”

Sanwo-Olu stressed that the deficiency of agricultural land in Lagos would not deter the State Government from deploying innovative and entrepreneurial ideas to create opportunities that would make the State sufficient in food production and engender economic growth through agriculture.

Lagos, the Governor said, will continue to maximize the value for resources invested in the agricultural sector, urging the beneficiaries to reciprocate the gesture by working hard to nurture their businesses to maturity.

Sanwo-Olu said the intervention would only be sustainable if the beneficiaries succeeded in activating new businesses and created positive impacts for agro-processors in the value chains.

“By putting in your best and judiciously utilising the assets entrusted to you, you are opening doors for more people to benefit tomorrow. Since your selection was based on merit, we believe you can deliver excellent results with these equipment and supplies you are receiving today,” Governor said.

He disclosed that his administration was set to establish Wholesale Agricultural Produce Hubs in strategic locations across the State to promote food safety and ensure access to direct markets for fresh-from-farm products, thereby reducing post-harvest losses for farmers.

Commissioner for Agriculture, Ms. Abisola Olusanya, said the State Government had not only restructured the projects for greater impacts, but also changed the name to transform the mindsets of beneficiaries not to see the initiative as entitlement and largesse from the Government.

She said the programme would help committed farmers to nurture their businesses into viable agricultural enterprises, pointing out that the Government had created a monitoring mechanism to keep track of the beneficiaries’ activities.

She said:“The Enterprise Activation programme will contribute to inclusive agricultural growth in Lagos, as it will be creating access for beneficiaries to exit the poverty trap and reduce economic inequality. Aside creating new marketing opportunities in the value chains, the programme will also provide a social safety net for youth, women and the vulnerable.”

Oniru of Iru Kingdom and immediate past Commissioner for Agriculture, Oba Gbolahan Lawal, praised the Sanwo-Olu administration for raising the investment for the scheme, which the monarch described as “inclusive empowerment”, as the intervention was extended to farmers in urban areas.

The traditional ruler urged beneficiaries not to betray the Government’s trust, asking them to utilise the support for the improvement of their businesses and turn in good testimonies at the end of the scheme’s tenure.

President of Ogbonge Women, a farmers’ group, Mrs. Chinasa Asonye, praised the Governor for the opportunity and for the priority accorded to women in agricultural business. She promised, on behalf of the beneficiaries, to judiciously deploy the tools for improved food production and return on investment.

In the scheme, 300 youths trained in Aquaculture and Poultry Production at the Lagos Agripreneurship Programme (LAP) were empowered with agricultural inputs valued at N245 million, which represented 46.7 per cent of the total investment in the programme.

Other beneficiaries include 400 pig farmers that participated in Agricultural Youth Empowerment Scheme (Agric-YES), 680 fishermen, 190 fish cage culture artisans, 360 egg marketers, 500 fish processors, 200 rice farmers and 370 crop farmers.

They received variety of modern tools, such as tractors, ploughs, fishing boats and gear, harvesters, threshers, destoning machines, defeathering machines, herbicides, fish juveniles, pig growers, smoking kilns, crates of eggs, and inputs, which are to be utilised in farming communities across Lagos agricultural zones of Badagry, Epe and Ikorodu.

Hushpuppi: Rush To US Now, Defend Yourself – HURIWA Tells Abba Kyari

Reading Time: 2 minutes
Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has suggested to Assistant Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari to go to the United States of America and defend himself from the bribery accusation made against him by the notorious fraudster, Hushpuppi.

HURiWA advised the decorated police officer to hasten to United States Court and file a counter affidavit to the accusation of bribery currently hanging on his neck.

“The United States of America is an organised Constitutional democracy where the Rule of Law is supreme. So if a crime suspect makes an affidavit accusation under Oath against you, it doesn’t need to be disclaimed in the local media here,” HURIWA informs.

HURIWA said the best thing for the police officer to do at this point, and before the Federal Bureau of Investigation hunts him down with the INTERPOL, is to board the next available flights to Washington DC or New York as someone with a clear conscience, and defend himself in the court.

HURIWA said Kyari should be able to present an affidavit evidence in the court to counter what he thinks is a tissue of falsehood and tell Nigerians “the rooster-and-bull story of how you, a very senior police officer acted as the agent of a local tailor is irrelevant and of no moment “.

The human rights organisation said the corporate image of the Nigeria Police Force and the nation would be irreparably damaged should the Inspector General of Police, IGP, not facilitate immediate travel of Abba Kyari to the USA.

The group said the IGP must compel Abba Kyari, who he trusts so much, to clear his name of the allegations instead of just letting him employ the pages of news media to try to exculpate or exonerate himself from an allegation that is lawfully filed before a United States Court.

“This allegation is heavy and it has been filed in the Court of law and not in the court of public opinion,” the group maintained.

The group also pointed out that it was shameful that a serving commissioner of Police publicly admitted to having acted as a go-between a local tailor and the then Dubai based fraud kingpin.

“Is there no longer a code of conduct between the police and members of the public especially with regards to the kind of relationship that should exist between such a top officer with someone that even before he was arrested by the Federal Bureau of investigation was already a person of interest because clearly, he had no credible means of such flamboyant lifestyle that became of global notoriety?

HURIWA quoting a media report said a warrant of arrest has allegedly been issued for Nigeria’s police commissioner Abba Kyari, Peoples Gazette can report based on court documents.

Carvajal Extends Real Madrid Contract

Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has signed a new four-year contract which will keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2025.

Right-back Carvajal joins midfielder Luka Modric and versatile defender Nacho in agreeing fresh terms with the club ahead of the 2021-22 season.

Carvajal came through the youth ranks but was sold to Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen in July 2012 having not managed to make a single first-team appearance.

However, Madrid exercised a buy-back option on Carvajal the following year and he has since gone on to become a regular, helping the club secure plenty of silverware.

He has won LaLiga twice with Madrid, as well as the Champions League on four occasions.

Carvajal struggled with injury problems last season, making just 13 appearances in LaLiga as Zinedine Zidane’s squad were unable to defend their league crown.

A hamstring injury ruled him out of contention for Spain’s squad for Euro 2020 but he has begun training with his Madrid team-mates under the watch of new head coach Carlo Ancelotti ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The court also ordered the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI to arrest Kyari and produce him for trial.

Reacting on Twitter on Thursday, Omokri urged the federal government to arrest Kyari fast the way it arrested secessionists: Nnamdi Kanu and Sunday Igboho:

“Let us see if Buhari arrests Abba Kyari with the same speed and brutality with which he attempted to arrest Sunday Igboho.”

“This will help us know whether some are more equal than others in Nigeria. Because if Abba Kyari was Igbo, by now he would have been suspended.”

“Now that the lid has been blown off Abba Kyari, what will Buhari’s Government do with its so called super cop, whose recent pastimes is attending celebrity burials.”

“This alleged FBI indictment must not be swept under the table because he shares ethnicity with Buhari.”
