A socio-cultural organisation, Yoruba Welfare Group, says it has adopted Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its presidential candidate and urged all political parties considering fielding candidates in 2023 general election to do same.

YWG, which expressed its delight with the love, unity, harmony and synergy that have pervaded the Southwest political landscape among its leaders said this in a statement on Tuesday.

In a release issued by its Media Adviser, Elder Yinka Salaam, YWG National President, Comrade Adegoke Alawuje, stated that the overall interest Nigeria guides the adoption of Tinubu by the National Working Committee of the Yoruba Welfare Group across the world.

He urged Nigerians to keep away completely from the negative and centrifugal tendencies such as IPOB imbroglio in the East as well as Boko Haram and banditry in the North; ahead of the presidential poll.

Alawuje noted that the sacrifice and love displayed by Yoruba leaders, despite political differences and affiliations signpost great hope for the posterity and the nation at large.

“Let us be completely positive within ourselves and with other ethnic groups for the sake of our children. As we all know, every positive activity has its appropriate time and period. We are now in the political era. We thank Almighty God for the coming together of all our political leaders as well as the traditional rulers.

“We must understand that we need ourselves to perfect all the programs and projects being implemented by the current government, because no region can survive without others”.

The national president noted that the YWG had intervened to reconcile the nation, after many unfortunate events that were capable of igniting full blown crises in the country.

While appreciating the efforts of members of the YWG in dousing tension in the land, Alawuje urged other regional and sociocultural organisations to borrow a leave from the Group.

“At a time, Yorubas appeared as fatherless children, but thanks to YWG that took a lead as a caring guidian at critical periods and crises situations

He remarked that the attainment of peaceful coexistence in the Southwest is gradually turning the region into a bastion for development.

“As a socio-cultural organisation, YWG does not shy away from engaging in politics, but our political engagement must be sincere and our involvement must be positive. We also understand that no region can survive without politicking but it must be clean and devoid of acrimony, hatred and rancour.

Leaders task on peace

Alawuje urged the traditional rulers to concentrate on promoting cultural and traditional values as well as respect for elders, traditional Institutions and constituted authorities.

He also appealed to the political leaders to prioritise employment and economic empowerment of the youths.

He said YWG economic empowerment committee was already making moves to collaborate with major stakeholders to prioritise food production and create employment for the youths, saying positive engagement of the youths is essential to securing Nigeria.
