Reading Time: 2 minutes
Hosts, Besiktas, settled really well in the game in the opening minutes. The Black Eagles gave Dortmund a taste of their formidable attackers led by Michy Batshuayi.
The former Chelsea forward came close to continuing his remarkable goalscoring record in the UCL, propelling Gregor Kobel to unbelievably tip the ball around the post with an instinctive one-handed save.
Dortmund made the breakthrough after twenty minutes after Besiktas failed to track Bellingham’s stealthy run into the box and the England international took full advantage, clinically converting Thomas Meunier’s cross into the bottom left-hand corner.
Expectedly, Besiktas came in search of an equalizer afterward and kept on asking the questions from Dortmund’s defense.
However, the German side was impervious to all the threats from Besiktas.
Ersin Destanoğlu prevented Dortmund from scoring the second in the twenty-eight minutes when he sprinted off his line to deny Dortmund captain Marco Reus with a reactionary save.
The away side tore Sergan Yalçın’s HT tactics into shreds in first-half injury-time as Haaland was in the right place at the right time to score his 15th goal in his last 11 UCL group stage matches, making no mistake from three yards after Bellingham’s panache and creativity opened up the defence.
After fifty-seven minutes, Besiktas were inches close to reducing the deficit as Atiba Hutchinson implausibly mistimed his volley with Gregor Kobel rooted to the spot to the dismay of the home support.
After a long evening of seeing their threats repelled by Borussia Dortmund, a couple of players brought in by the Turkish side turned things around shortly before the final whistle.
The consolation goal would come through Francisco Montero with a magnificent header from Miralem Pjanić’s enticing free-kick that gave Kobel no chance in the stoppage time.
Dortmund, after making it to the last eight of the competition last term, are heavily fancied to make it to the knockout stages again this season, while Besiktas face an uphill task to qualify from Group C, after tonight’s loss.
