Loius van Gaal tackles Barca, backs Ronald Koeman

Reading Time: < 1 minute
Loius van Gaal has accused his former employers, Barca, of being too quick to blame foreigners for the club’s misfortunes as he drums support for under-fire boss, Ronald Koeman.

Van Gaal spent two spells in the dugout of the Catalan giants with the first seeing his fellow Dutchman, Koeman, as his assistant before his nightmarish return in the 2002-03 season.

He won four trophies during his first tenure in the Barca bench which includes two La Liga titles. He has now launched an onslaught on the club by alleging that the pressure his former right-hand man is under at Barca is fuelled by the fact that he’s a Dutch.

The former Manchester United manager when asked about Koeman’s position at Barca, noted that history is repeating itself and advised his former assistant not to pay attention to the criticisms.

“It is typical Barcelona.” said van Gaal.

“When everything is going well and you make great contributions, as Frenkie de Jong has done in the last two years, then you do not have anything to worry about.

“But when things go wrong, the people at Barcelona will always look (to blame) foreigners.

“In this case, it applies to the coach, because he (Koeman) is a foreigner and Dutch.

The current Netherlands boss is the only ex-manager of Barca that has spoken about his displeasure with his current club side.
