Loyal loan army warrior finally gets his move away from Chelsea

When you look back at the “loan army” project in the future, there won’t be many players who represent the whole thing as perfectly – for better and for worse – than Jake Clarke Salter.

He came through the academy, and at the age of 18 was ready to go out on loan to Bristol Rovers.

After a season there he went to Sunderland, then to Vitesse, then to Birmingham (twice), then finally to Coventry this season.

Along the way he never looked like he was going to make it as a Chelsea first team, but also looked like he would be good enough to be sold on for good money.

In the end he will leave on a free transfer to QPR according to the Athletic, with Chelsea essentially benefitting nothing from developing this Championship level player.

Oh well, you can’t win them all. If he keeps up his gradual upward curve, we’ll see him in the Premier League before too long.
