The latest news from around Stamford Bridge as Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel prepare for FA Cup quarter-final action against Sheffield United tomorrow afternoon.
Here’s all the news from around Stamford Bridge over the past 24 hours.
Champions League draws The UEFA Champions League quarter-final and the semi-final draws have been conducted with Chelsea discovering who they will face.
With the draw for the quarter-finals completely unseeded, meaning anyone could be paired with anyone, the Blues have been handed the task of getting past Portuguese outfit FC Porto in the last-eight
Chelsea will be away from home in the first-leg, meaning they will have the advantage of playing at Stamford Bridge in the second leg to try and secure a spot in the semi-finals.
As well as the quarter-final draw being conducted, the semi-final draw has also taken place.
Should Chelsea get the better of Porto and progress to the last four of the competition, they will face either Real Madrid or Liverpool for a place in the final
The Chelsea head coach faced the media ahead of the FA Cup quarter-final against Sheffield United and the main talking point from his press conference was about a transfer decision and team news hint regarding wonderkid Tino Anjorin
“I did not know much about him and I got to know him here. From the first day, I was very impressed because he is a very physical player,” Tuchel said. “A tall guy, a strong guy. He has the ability to keep the ball under pressure because he has the body for it.
“He has the physical ability to play and train with us at this level.
“He had some minutes against Barnsley in the FA Cup game and we try to involve him in the group against Sheffield because he trains very well.
“We decided to keep him [in January] to get to know him better. Not to send him on loan or find another solution for him in winter. I am happy about that.
“I feel him very strong in finishing in training. He is a very nice character. A nice guy from the academy, another nice guy, very humble and at the same time totally focused, totally clear when you talk to him. Very self-aware.”
What happened between Hudson-Odoi and Mount in training The Chelsea squad is in high spirits ahead of their FA Cup tie and that’s no surprise given their form under Tookel.
Ahead of the big game at Stamford Bridge, the likes of Christian Pulisic, Kai Havertz, and Olivier Giroud were put through their paces at the club’s training base in Cobham on Friday afternoon.
It was a normal session as one would expect, but there was a cool moment involving Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
As spotted in the image below, the pair enjoyed a quick game of rock, paper, scissors.
Of course, as scissors cut paper, Mount emerged victorious in the mini-battle between the two Chelsea academy products who will be hopeful of starting against the Blades.
With that said, it’s unclear as to if it was a one-off game or a best of three series, or even what the loser’s punishment was.
